John Brook
Hi, I am new to the steadicam world and would eventually like to pursue a career. Upon researching steadicams I noticed that it would talk about weight and would give a range. (Example: 15-25lbs.) My question is does that mean that the rig can hold a maximum camera weight of 25 lbs or does that mean that the rigs arm can hold a maximum of 25 lbs. I am looking to eventually fly a Sony DSR 370 and would need to be able to handle that much weight plus a possible wide angle adaptor. Any help would be appreciated. Premium Members Reid Russell Posted October 14, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 14, 2008 That is the weight that the arm can support. Therefore you must take into consideration the weight of the sled, monitor and batteries as well as the camera and any accessories on it. Also if your not tethered you'll need a follow focus device and a video transmitter.
RobinThwaites
Hi All Tiffen always quotes maximum CAMERA weight (payload) for Steadicam complete rigs i.e Pilot 10lbs, Flyer LE 19lbs etc. Robin
John Brook
So the two different Steadicams that I am looking into getting eventually are the Glidecam V-25 series and the Steadicam Flyer-LE. Which would be a better purchase?
Premium Members Henry Gelhart Posted October 17, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 17, 2008 Hi John, you can't really say what the better purchase is. You have to make the decision. Try them! And finally compare them. But to give you a little "jump-start", the Sony DSR 370 is a "quite big camera", at least bigger than the Canon HVX-200 or so, wich is perfect for the Steadicam Flyer. The advantage of the Glidecam V25 is, that it can carry quite heavy cameras (like your Sony). I tried the Steadicam Flyer a year ago and I was really happy about it! Very smooth gimbal, the arm had a very good boomrange and the weight was very comfortalbe to carry. In my eyes the Glidecam looks a bit "heavy". Okay! Try them both and make a decision! :) Cheers Henry
