For the last three years I've worked with a Handsfree Transporter and still maintain contact with the company. Their service and dedication to the customer and their products is truely exemplary. No one beats them in the field of development and customer care and spare parts are always delivered quickly, too.

The newest Hardmount from Handsfree Transporter works perfectly and the development of the new version is a real highlight. At first I must admit, I was sceptical about using weight shifts to affect the steering. However, after several trials with the new version, I found it to be not only superior but really easy to control as well. It is 12 centimeters wider and thus affords much more stability. In addition, although the operator's support no longer reaches down to the leg area everything else is similar to the older version. As long as you use the Hardmount, I whole heartedly recommend this new version of the Hands Free Transporter.

Why is the operator wearing a vest in this picture?

trying to operate softmount while the hardmount is telescoped up like that is realy hairy. On a few jobs I've grabbed my vest and put it on jsut to make moving where everything was faster. It is not a safe thing to do.

 

I do agree though. Love my Handsfree its a great piece of kit. THe guys making it have been good to deal with.

Looks almost to me like he's operating hardmount while wearing the vest. Look closely at the socket blocks. No?

I agree he is hardmounted and wearing the vest.

 

He also has the old hardmount. Now its a 2 piece which allows the post to telescope up and down.

 

The position he is shooting in is also the second most difficult way to shoot on the transporter. "Tango" on "Modified DJ" with the lens pointed to the arm side is difficult to operate because of your blocked view of the monior. This is one of the reasons I recommend putting your monitor are far out as you can.

 

Don Juan is the most difficult to operate in just based on watching the monitor behind you while trying to drive foward. Mounted the camera backwards or having a second monitor are great options.

 

You can operate while gliding backwards on the handsfree. Your steering is revered (right is left, left is right) the unit also does not like to go to fast, She'll shut down on you if you push it.

 

I find i only go backwards if I know its going to lead me into riding going forward. ie pulling out of a CU into a 2 shot and then following subject(s) someplace else.

Just screw the stick a little more outside for more space between the vest and the socketblock.

Just screw the stick a little more outside for more space between the vest and the socketblock.

Cool stuff cruising between the cars . . . . .

 

Years ago I did a similar shot at Nascar with an RF pointer attached to me only it was much more low tech . . . . .

 

My wife bought me those Heely shoes and off I went straight down the middle of the cars. . . .LOL . . .low mode hand held with my RF pointer holding his transmitter in one hand and pushing me with the other . . . . .

I want one of these things really bad! Even if I never use it to do a steadicam shot I just want one. It looks like ton's of fun. It also does seem like it would be a super sweet steadicam tool. My question is, assuming you are renting your regular steadicam package (without hands free) for 1000 to 1100 per day as a commercial rate, what could you expect to rent the package for with the hands free? I understand they are about 20k all rigged out. Does that mean you get an extra 150 to 200 bucks per day rental for your hands free?

 

I understand that it would be worth while just to make your life easier and possibly get you cooler shots but in terms of renting it, what does it go for??? Are clients usually willing to pay for it?

absolutely right, makes lots of fun working with it. I don´t know the US matket very well but I take 300-400 extra per day.

I´ve worked more than 50 days in this year together with the Handsfree but I´m in luck with a pretty good client.
