Vid Finder that Transmits

Hi All,

Wanted to talk about options (or lack thereof) of video directors finders w/ a modulas transmitter. Anybody got any ideas where to buy or rent one (w/pana mount) THAT WORKS!!

Tried many (including a pana version) they all suck. So... wanted to see what you guys think. The hard part about them is big clumsy batts to power the vid tap and modulas. Looking for that perfect, PETITE, mobile vid finder that transmits.

Thanks in advance,

Bud Kremp

I've seen a few in the past - none of which were small, and certainly none of which were cheap. As technology gets smaller, perhaps the options for finders like this will too. The size and cost will obviously depend on how robust the finder is. PL mount? Swappable ground glass? Onboard monitor?

James Cameron had one made up for (I think) Titanic. Matias Mesa has or used to have one he made out of a P&S Technik Mini35C. Larry McConkey's "Larrycam" is probably the most incredible one I've seen, but it's one of a kind. There are no out-of-the-box solutions I know of. The closest I've seen might be that P&S system, but even that would require a few mods to turn it into a decent finder.

If you truly want petite, maybe just get a little camcorder and strap a transmitter to it. You'd have to calculate the zoom range's equivalents in the different formats, and perhaps tape off different aspect ratios, but it would require minimal modifications.

I have a Kisch finder with a video tap and a power output and cable for a modulus. PL or Pana mount. It's not petite. Don't think you can achieve that combination in an optical viewfinder. Not to mention the lenses themselves are not lightweight. Perhaps you could achieve that with a video only finder.

Doc,

What are you using for batteries? Too many of these systems run out of juice too fast with the addition of a Modulus.

It runs on a couple of internal 9v batteries but as you suspect it won't run with the modulus very long. It has an input for an external power supply; battery belt.

www.rangevideo.com

They sell cheap Tx / Rx systems.

They work and also use the same electronics as the transvideo Titans except these are alot cheaper.

regards.

AJ.

What is everyone's opinion with these components sold on RangeVideo.com? Has anybody field tested them? I ran across the same site and was very intrigued. I wouldn't mind fabbing something up with those components. The Titan is close but still out of reach, and I'm sick of the DP floating over my shoulder at every turn!
