Premium Members Marco Dardari Posted October 23, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 23, 2008 Someone knows if it is possible to buy a clipper 324 with G-70 arm instead G-50? Marco
Premium Members Jon Beattie Posted October 23, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 23, 2008 I asked Frank Rush this same question. He said "NO" tiffen will not sell a 324 and a g70. The 324's topstage is only rated to carry 30-35lbs of camera. If your flying something heavier and whip pan and the post snaps. Tiffen will not cover the gear under warranty. Thats the basic story Frank gave me. Now have guys flown robust camera packages on a clipper without a problem. Yes. Tiffen wants to make sales. So maybe they will. But I doubt it. For the extra 14k you are better off with the U2.
Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted October 23, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 23, 2008 The 324's topstage is only rated to carry 30-35lbs of camera. If your flying something heavier and whip pan and the post snaps. Wait a second! Nothing is going to snap or break - the Clipper's use the same posts as the U2 and if anything, the post extension clamps will slip long before the post snaps. The real concern is if someone with a Clipper uses a very heavy camera (because the G-70 can carry the weight and the sled can balance the camera), and in low mode in particular, and then does a violent move. Then there's a real opportunity for vibration more than anything else, as the stage has a smaller footprint and bearings than the U2's. smaller, but I used to stand (I keep saying this!) on the prototype U2 (big) stage and dial myself back and forth w/out consequence for me or the stage... the Clipper stage is smaller than the U2's, but I'm much heavier than any camera we carry. Premium Members Marco Dardari Posted October 23, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted October 23, 2008 I would have need that the clipper 324/G50arm covers the range of digital camera (that currently fly with my SK2) and Red/16mm cameras with accessories (BFT, gyros...) Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted October 24, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 24, 2008 I believe that they sell the sled, the arm and the vest individually so if you really want to go that route I am sure you could although it might cost a little more. Anyone have any specs on how much the Clipper 324 weighs compared to the Ultra2? Ultra2 is listed as 13pounds 13oz for monitor and sled with no batteries. Can't find a listing for the 324. ~Jess

Hyper advanced math would bring the C324 sled out to 15 lb or 11.3 lb without batteries. C324: (from Tiffen website) # "Ride Control"10-35lb (4.5-15.9kg) Net Camera Capacity U2: (From sales pdf/print brochure) Sled with monitor (no batteries) 17 lbs 13 oz Weight with 1 battery: + 1.65 lbs Weight with 2 batteries: + 3.3 lbs
