Premium Members Markus Rave Posted November 7, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 7, 2004 Just for you info. The av300 hard drive can be upgraded to a 80gig drive, if you are handy with your hands. See this great personal site dedicated to the Av300: AV300 Have fun <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Quite true. I checked the prices on the recommended harddisk but all together ist will come only 50 USD below buying the AV480 instead the AV420. Loosing your warranty and risking the device is not worth it, I guess. Markus

Premium Members flemming laybourn Posted December 7, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 7, 2004 Hello Fellow operators..! I have recently planted an Archos on my MK-V rig... and so far I Have been using the internal battery, and charged the unit on the stand... but I would ofcourse like to be able to "breast-feed" it from the rig... I have 14.8 V (6.5 Amp) coming out and I need 5V ( 1.6 amp ) going in...... Anyone with a good link.. ? or maybe a home invention..? All the best Flemming "I sleep with my proarm" Laybourn
Premium Members charlesneufeld Posted December 7, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 7, 2004 Hey, Can you find out if it really draws 1.6 amps? Main reason is that if it does draw 1.6A you cannot use the cheap and readaly available 7805 with heatsink :( as it is only good for about 1A... If you could meter out the amps and determine if 1A would do it, you are laughing :P I could whip up a simple schematic for you either way... but if it is over 1.6 the regulator will be a little more bulky, let me know. ~C :D

Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted December 8, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 8, 2004 Fred Davis made me a power/video cable for my av-320 to my pro -- worked great for half a day, then at lunch somebody walked away with it. Nice. At least they left the cable. Currently looking to buy another hard drive. Can anyone with the AV-420 tell me if it still requires that sucky adaptor to get video in? Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted December 8, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 8, 2004 Here in Thailand I see a lot of those variable power supplies, switchable from 3 to 12 volts and they are of the switching kind, which means they can handle large currents without getting warm. They come with a range of connectors for all kind and brand of equipment. There is also a type that you can use for 12V car-battery and it is easily rebuild with another connector. Try to find this in automotive or watersports shops.
Premium Members Benjamin Treplin Posted December 8, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 8, 2004 Hi Flemming, Sorry this was the wrong link. Not enough power. Here is another one: link Ron, the 420 doesn't need the adapter. It's possible to take apart the "TV cradle" and make a custom cable with the plug that goes in the AV 420. MikePrevette
Just buy the car adapter for it, and chop the cable, and add whatever lemo plug you need. I checked it's $34 at amazon. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...lectronics&st=* -mike

Premium Members BJMcDonnell SOC Posted January 17, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2005 Yo Nick! Hey man, I know that I saw the Archos at Circuit City in Santa Monica. They have a few of them. I bought the RCA Lyra and I have been using that as my hard drive recorder. It is cool. BJ McDonnell
