SteadiCam Pilot + V1E + HeadPhones

With my V1E mounted on my SC (SteadiCam Pilot), how do I plug my headphones into the Camera without the cable destabilising the SC ?? :huh:

Hey Jay,

as any cable, the headphones cable will interfere with the balance and stability of your sled, specially a light one like the Pilot.

If you do a bit of research on the forum you'll find plenty of informations about how to manage cables and best way to fix it minimizing effects.

The best solution I think is use a radio mic TX unit plugged into the headphone output of the camera and have the RX unit mounted on the vest or your body somewhere, then the phones plugged into that.

If the idea is to monitor audio from other wireless sources to make sure it is clean, obviously this is not ideal from an audio standpoint but it's a tough call to operate Steadicam and manage audio at the same time! If you are not a one-man band, it might be worth recording the audio onto a separate camera or standalone audio recorder (getting cheap and good these days) from a fixed position, which will minimize the possibility of audio dropout vs a moving Steadicam and moving subject. That recorder can obviously be monitored with a hardline also.

 

If you are a one-man band--Norbert's idea will work the best.

I have used the Pilot with a cable twice now, once just yesterday. It always makes the shot less stable. The Pilot is so light that the slightest force on the wire will affect things. If you are going to monitor audio through headphones on a regualr basis, get a wireless system.

 

But if you only do this very seldomly, and the stability of the shot isn't critical, then here's how I do it:

1) dress the wire behind the camera and then down loosly.

2) wrap the wire once around the palm of your left hand.

3) wrap the wire an additional turn around the little finger of your left hand, all the way back into the v.

4) use a little gaff tape on the wire and the outside of your palm / little finger area to hold it in place.

5) drape a little cable down and then up into your left rear pocket.

6) make sure the cable doesn't come out of your left rear pockt. use gaff tape if necessary.
