A note - Larry has since switched to one of the new Kenyon "X" series Gyros. He machined a new mounting plate that mounts it in place of the batteries on his sled. From his testing, it's quite good, and he found that the gyros inside it were well-balanced, eliminating the need for him to go through and test dozens of gyros to get properly matching pairs. It is a bit heavy, but he was able to strip off a little weight by removing some of the Kenyon mounting hardware and machining his own.

 

In his previous iteration, for the KS-6 gyros, which were the primary go-to ones, he had built a piece of aluminum which mounted the two gyros in an "X" configuration, one slightly above and in front of the other, where his batteries went. Unluckily, I do not have a picture handy, but perhaps when Larry is back in town I can go over and grab one. The X Series gyro did make it much simpler to set up, however, and I know a couple other ops who have used them and found them to be a great tool.

Used the ks-6x6 system recently on my sled in regular mode, low mode, and vehicle mounted on the windy salt flats. Thanks to Tom's great machining skills, I was able to mount the unit to the lower ab mount. And thanks to Larry's awesome advice, I was able to fly with them with only minor adjustments to my operating and grip.

 

On a job right after, I actually missed having that "solid" feel to the sled, but the gyros are actually so good and solid that they would probably prohibit most of the traditional operating you need to do. I could see however, a great addition to the ks-6x6 system being variable speed control so you could "dial-in" the amount of resistance you want/need.
