Image posting test

Testing what method prevents regular members from seeing images posted by sustaining members.

(Done testing)

I could always see the images that I post after logging out (viewing as a guest), either by pasting the URL or by using the "insert image" button in the toolbar. Tried using various image sizes to see if there was a size threshold that changed the way images are attached.

I never got the small, boxed-in attachment widget that I often see. I'm wondering now if different browsers activate different features in the forum manager?

Another possibility is that guests can see all images, but if you sign up as a regular member, you suddenly can't see certain images posted by sustaining members. That would be odd, but something I haven't tried.

You figure this out yet? I can see the image you posted, although lots of times I can't see peoples images.

After a little bit of snooping I think I may be on to something. I can't view the image posted in this thread: http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...?showtopic=8690 I never have been able to since it was first posted no matter what browser I use, logged in or not. I get the message "Sorry, but you do not have permission to use this feature."

Instead of being inserted with an image tag this picture appears to be an attached file. I believe that non sustaining members don't currently have access to these attached files although there are other attached files that I have been able to view. If someone else could verify this that would be great.

Alan, as a sustaining member do you have the option of attaching a picture as a file instead of posting a link to a picture elsewhere? If so can you try it.

Either I'm just not seeing it, or there's no way to actually attach a file. Rather, that attachment feature is a symptom of the browser, or the image size, or the format, or something else. I haven't figured it out.

All I know is that I used to get those "permission denied" messages you see. I looked at the thread about Chris Fawcett's new handsfree and couldn't see the image. Signed up as a sustaining member, and I could suddenly see it (and the others that I had previously not been able to see). Chris just posted that he could see the image without logging in.

That's good enough evidence for me to say it's something in the membership system. But what causes images to be posted differently, that I still don't know.

Hope all is well with you!

I don't see how the attachment feature could be a symptom of the browser as it is the forum itself saying it and not giving access to the file. It does appear that those images are stored in the forum itself and not linked to elsewhere which seems to be the difference although without access to a sustaining member account I don't know how to reproduce it.

If you log out and go to: http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...?showtopic=8690 can you see the picture?

Things are going alright with me although work is really slow right now. Just worked on a reality TV show about toddler beauty pageants. Might be going to LA in the new year.
