With the switch to digital eminent and my previous POS directors monitor dead I am looking to get a new one while I can still find them. Anyone ever used this one: http://www.amazon.com/Axion-AXN-8701-Wides...1714&sr=8-1

Any other suggestions?

I know about the one at cramped attic but it is a bit more than I am looking to spend on this at the moment.

Those in the LA area who are looking at Lilliput can visit their "store" in City of Industry--it's really just an office but they have most of the models and you can buy them direct, as cheap or cheaper than online (so you can check them out first). I bought a couple last year however I ended up selling them as they weren't what I was looking for. The "international tuning" thing that pretty much all consumer grade portable TV's use is too difficult to use on set in my opinion (takes too long to find and lock channels if you change them due to interference). It's not just Lilliput, I imagine that Axion does it too, the user reviews hint as much.

Tough to find anything decent in analog tuning at this point...

I have the Axion AXN5358 3.5-inch TV. The reception is OK, nothing amazing. It is nowhere near the level of reception you can get with a tuner hooked up to a shark fin antenna. It takes 4 AA batteries for every 2 or so hours of use. I have a few sets of rechargeables I bring. It's cheap at $60 and its lightweight. It's a 4:3 image, so it's not the most ideal, but I rarely get complaints about it. It does not stay on a specific channel if you turn it off and then back on again.

I just ordered the Axion one. The princess one was very tempting but I like the built in battery on the Axion one even though it doesn't last very long. I will let yall know what I think. Its $140 shipped from newegg.com with the $10 off coupon code EMCBBBJAH which expires 11/24.

Hey Jess,

I picked up one of those 7" monitors, it's not axiom but it looks identical, it's Accurion and there's a small external battery you can get from radio shack called Lenmar DVDU923 Lithium it last like 6 hours after the internal battery in the monitor dies. It's a 9v super small and attaches with that industrial plastic velcro and weigh very little and about $50

But like the others said, it's not like the older monitors when you lose signal it just gets snowy, this one when it loses signal the screen turns blue then you have to wait for it to re-acquire the signal, and it takes like 2 minutes to scan the frequencies.

Good luck

I haven't had it on set yet but so far the Axion monitor looks to be exactly what I need. It does have a setting for 4:3 as well as 16:9 and even has a zoom function which will punch in on a letterboxed 16:9 image. The tuner seems to get rather good reception all considering. I still need to make up some battery packs for it as 90 minutes isn't going to be quite enough. I will let yall know how it fares when I get it on set.
