Hytron 50's- To re-cell or not to re-cell ???

Wondering if anyone has had luck in re-celling Hytron 50's...good or bad!

I've heard it can be done but the LCD indicator can be damaged.

The people at Anton Bauer say they cannot be recelled. But even if you could, the cool thing about the Hytron 50 is how cheap it is.

 

They (like most batteries i suspect) last about 2 years with normal use.

I had some done several years ago at Rathbone Energy and I would NOT do it again. Aside from the absurdly difficult time I had dealing with that company (as others have documented recently) the fact remained that the re-celled batteries didn't last a year. One problem in re-celling is the delicate heat sensor that is built in which helps regulate charging sometimes will not work and that battery may not work on the AB chargers. Then the alternative is buying different chargers or buying a new battery, which turns out to weigh slightly more than the re-celled batteries; a balancing nightmare. I would recommend getting the far superior Dionic 90 batteries, or if your budget doesn't allow, get new Hytrons. AB will recycle them for you and I believe give a discount when you trade them in.

FYI I'm now completing my 3rd year with 7 Dionics that I bought as B-stock through Paul (they'd had a few cycles at the 2004 Olympics) and they are still going strong. I thought I'd start with a set of 6 with one as a spare to see how things went before buying more and guess what, I've never run out of power or even close, having had the 9-battery set in my mind since going PRO more than 10 years ago. I've had a number of the gang who are thinking about migrating from Hytrons quiz me about the Dionics and so far I can't think of anyone who was pissed at me for recommending them (they were mostly just pissed at me for all the usual reasons).
