Premium Members chris fawcett Posted December 9, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 9, 2008 Shameless. I wonder if it works. It's interesting how so many knock-offs look the part, but completely fail to perform like the evolved product we are used to. Having said that, it's a tribute to the genius of GB's original design that no matter how badly understood, copied, and indeed, operated, even the worst rig can stabilise a camera in a way that was impossible before the Great Brown Stabiliser Paradigm Shift. Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted December 9, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 9, 2008 Looks like they cut some corners. Looks like the bones are simply bent metal instead of the honeycomb design Tiffen is using. Looks like its probably made of steel. I bet they cheaped out on a lot of the materials So it probably has enough steel to be heavier and enough weaker materials to break at a very inconvenient time if you are flying heavy cameras with it. ~Jess

Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted December 10, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 10, 2008 I was at the BIRTV broadcast convention last month in Beijing and met this company and Mr. Frankie...... I tested his biggest rig, which was loaded with an old style Betacam camera (not working) , certainly not the heaviest camera possible. The whole system is made of flimsy thin materials, soft metals and definitely not worth your money! The adjustments are not tool-less when the arm is loaded, it takes a wrench and lots of force to change. I could see the arm elements twisting, pulling halfway out of the bearings and also saw scrapings of metal pieces inside. The vest is easily distorted by any force, the attachment to the socket block is weak and will bend and break under load. Not a good system at all, but bluntly copied. He is not the only one doing this, the other "famous' company Movcam does the same. I tested their rigs and arms too and must say that they are working much better already. Their choice of materials is much better Everything you see there is a copy of the originals, so they look good, but lack performance. Movcam is however much more sturdy build than Frankie. Also their arms look tool-less but are in fact not so. But to be honest, the Movcam arms were working much better. They have the IIIa arm and the Master arms but I don't know about the latest G50/70's. ( have not seen a G50/70 ever so cannot compare) This is not the only equipment that is copied. Cranes, Jimmy-jibs, dollies, accessories, everything was shown there, but rarely the originals. The most copied items are however, Arri's complete line of lamps, tungsten and HMI, everywhere i saw the famous blue Arri parts on lamps and ballasts, but upon inspection they were from at least 10 different chinese companies who copied everything, even the details (except for the name). But do not expect the electronics in the ballast to be the same, it is only the outside!
