Premium Members Mike McGowan SOC Posted December 18, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 18, 2008 (edited) I need to ship my gear and I just can't stand the idea of excess baggage. It ends up costing an arm and a leg, I have to get to the airport frickin 20 hours early and there is always some new (size, weight, color) restriction about what you can and can not check as excess baggage. So, my question is, what's your favorite method of shipping your gear? It's a small production company and I want to save them as much money as possible and that it maybe has a week that I can live without it (it needs to be there on the 5th and I dont want to send it until like the 29th?). It's only going in the continental USA. Thoughts???? Edited December 18, 2008 by Mike McGowan SOC

Premium Members Charles Papert Posted December 18, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 18, 2008 I myself use a company called Transgroup Express here in LA, but the idea is the same at various companies who offer the service. They pick up from your house or storage area and like magic the gear arrives at your location. My favorite part is that I specify that it be palletized as a single unit--all the cases get put on one pallette and shrink-wrapped together which means less wear and tear on the individual cases, plus no stickers that you have to spend hours trying to remove later. Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted December 18, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 18, 2008 I've used SportsExpress.com for ten years or so. They do not palletize the shipment which is an excellent idea but they are nationwide and their staff tracks the shipment for you, confirms arrival and provide you the name of exactly who has it and where it is being stored at the delivery point. FWIW, my last travel / ship on Delta Airlines 45 days ago cost $750 each way at Media Rate. I had the agent look up what the regular consumer rate would have been and that was $1225 each way. That was for five cases, plus my Steadi stand and one piece of personal checked luggage.
Premium Members Henry Gelhart Posted December 18, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 18, 2008 Hmm... it is within the USA... I would use FedEx or FedEx Ground. They are fast and the price is often ok. HEnry
