Sad news...

Recommended Posts

It is with a heavy heart that I bring this sad news and I admit that I don't really know what to say or how to say it, this is nearly impossible for me to write.

The Flying Dutchman, Floris Sijbesma, passed away last week.

A good friend, generous, filled with humour and an incredible operator and teacher.

He's the man that gently forced me into this job and for that I shall always owe him.

He wasn't active on the forum but for those that didn't know him, Floris has been around since the early years, both as an operator and as a teacher.

His personality was an acquired taste for some but you could never deny his presence, you always knew when Floris has entered the building!

It's always too soon when something like this happens.

I hope nobody minds that I posted this here but I felt that the community needed to know, especially the Dutch community.

Goodbye my friend, you were taken from us too soon and I miss you

Rest in peace

I read this post in shock, this is very sad news. I know Floris from about 10 years back and i will never forget the moment i saw him with his steadicam at work. He inspired me and was alway willing to help out with my questions. Floris was and is the steadicam pioneer in the Netherlands. We will miss you, rest in peace.

If someone would like to write a little bit about Floris' background, I will put it on his memoriam page, that I've started, on the guild web site.

http://www.steadicamguild.net

As a reminder, if anyone is interested in writing or finding photos of other operators or other folks that made an impact on our Steadicam community that are no longer with us, like Ted and Chuck please submit the material via email to the guild's email address: admin@steadicamguild.net

Life is yours until it's taken away....

Floris was one of the greatest steadicam-operators that I've seen working and a remarkable man who's eyes twinkeled when he talked or teached you about the steadicam...

Goodbye...Flying Dutchman and thanks for sharing the passion.

My deepest condolences to the family and freinds of Floris. On a personal note, even though some of us on this forum will meet sometime or not, I feel that we are in a fraternal bond whether we know each other or not, and are all connected in one way, shape or form and it's sad to know one of our bretheren has passed.

Godspeed to you and your families related or unrelated.

Ruben,

Thank you for the post and letting us know this very unfortunate news. I knew Floris for many years.

For those who never met Floris, he was a great artisan of Steadicam. One of the ?old Guard? that was responsible for breaking new ground and elevating the Steadicam into the well-accepted craft the industry enjoys today.

I know his presence and influence will be missed.

James
