Premium Members Nils Valkenborgh Posted January 2, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 2, 2009 Hi, I was looking for a cheap wireless 2,4 ghz video transmitter and receiver and I came across this product http://www.sourcingmap.com/24ghz-wireless-...er-p-23599.html Considering the price it may be worth diy-ing it onto my rig (and monitor) with a custom battery until I find a transmitter receiver made for flying on a rig. Premium Members Nils Valkenborgh Posted January 4, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 Job, That's all I needed to hear, it looks like crap no doubt. But there must be a cheaper alternative to the $4327 Canatrans transmitter (or transmitters of equal capability).

But there must be a cheaper alternative to the $4327 Canatrans transmitter (or transmitters of equal capability). There is. The Modulus rings in around $2000. Cramped Attic makes one for about the same. Find either of them used and you'll save a few hundred.
Premium Members JobScholtze Posted January 4, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 Dont know about THIS one, but its worth checking it out. You can use almost any tv reciever for it. But the better the reciever is the better picture you get. But to be honest, you get what you pay for. Its was expensive yes, but i love that canatrans each day

I flew a couple of months ago and I had it mounted on the bottom of my sled and I was getting crazy horizontal interference in my monitor. My Modulus and Rf-Links both don't interfere that way, but then again all the Rf systems work like crap around LA because of so much other RF in the air
Premium Members JobScholtze Posted January 4, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 Rob, whats up man. Happy new year. No i had no problems at all in the 2+ years i use it. Never, nothing, nada, nope. It has been wonderfull. What monitor? Did you use a thin videocable from sled to monitor? That could be the problem. If the cable isnt shielded enough, it pics up signals. Premium Members JobScholtze Posted January 5, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 5, 2009 I wonder how thick a GOD shielded cable is. Anyway, weird. I didnt have that problem. But to be honest, 80% i mount the transmiter as high as possible. That seems to get videovillage a better signal.
Mauro Andreini
Hi, I was looking for a cheap wireless 2,4 ghz video transmitter and receiver and I came across this product I have tested an Aurel 2.4Ghz unit on my rig and it was not bad at all within a 120 steps from base; they are very slim and quite inexpensive too. Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted January 18, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 18, 2009 I'm in the same boat as these fellas, wondering what I can use until a Titan or CamWave is within reach. I found some stuff on B&H that interests me, but I'm left wondering what will happen when I start moving around! http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5091..._Microwave.html

Premium Members Nils Valkenborgh Posted January 22, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 22, 2009 I found some transmitters/receivers for under $100 each at this site. They're used to being built into a remote controlled aeroplane, so it'll probably be able to cope with the movement of a steadicam. I'll probably buy this and try it out if the shipping and taxes aren't too excessive. the transmitter is only 30g in weight and 26 x 50 x 13 mm in size not including the 3dBi antenna. the receiver is a little bit bigger, here's the description. This belongs on the monitor for the Director/D.O.P. The receiver comes delivered with a battery which is a big plus. at 135g it's more than 4 times as heavy as the transmitter but then again, lightness isn't a factor at this side. the size is pretty reasonable for diy-ing to the back of a monitor. Please, share your opinion P.S.: keep in mind that it's sub $200 for both of them.
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted January 22, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 22, 2009 (edited) Those are almost identical to the products sold on www.RangeVideo.com Before I found out that there was a Tx model that came in an enclosure, I was looking at Project Boxes and Heatsinks to make my own. I even thought of putting a small fan in there.. 2.4ghz 1000mW Tx Module w/ enclosure 2.4ghz Rx Module w/ enclsoure Price works out about the same..
