Premium Members Alfeo Dixon SOC Posted April 27, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 27, 2009 Charles, Would putting one of those 75 ohm bnc terminators on the empty bnc output, would that solve the issue... I'm still trying to wrap my head around the termination processes. -Alfeo
Premium Members Sebastien Audinelle Posted April 29, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 29, 2009  Hi everyone, first of all, thanks so much for this forum, I don't know what newbies like me would do without it. I bought my first rig last month, a used Archer, I love it. Now I'm trying to buy some accessories. A couple of weeks ago I shot with the RED camera, and I wish I'd had a downconverter. So after reading this post I decided to buy a Decimator, I should get it in a couple of days and I'm gonna need a custom power cable. I read that the person to contact is Terry West, now, if someone could give me his contact info, I would highly appreciate it. Well, that's it for now, thanks in advance. Sebastien. Premium Members Santiago Yniguez Posted May 24, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2009 I had an opportunity to use this about a month ago and had nothing but praise about it. I loved the size of it....could place it anywhere out of the way. There wasn't any noticeable delay. The only complaint I can think of is the power connector on the unit. I've just had problems in the past with those types of connectors regardless of the screw-lock. (after multiple uses, the contacts inside the female plug get pushed out so that it makes intermittent connection with male plug). I'm definitely going to buy one for my kit......can't go wrong with that price!

Premium Members Charles Papert Posted June 24, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 24, 2009 No, that's perfectly normal! Mis-wired cable by any chance? The Decimator has protection against reverse polarity and I believe over-voltage so this is interesting. Guys, please pass on any stories like this, I am reporting them back to the US distributor. It's most helpful if you can detail the specific setup and eliminate external issues. There are many happy customers with the Decimator so we know they work, but it's important to hear about any potential problems as well. By the way I am now stocking Decimators along with P-tap cables (and shortly, PRO and Steadicam compatible power cables) so if anyone in LA needs one last minute, give me a call. Also I have a couple of rental units.

Also I have a couple of rental units. Mis wired, i cant imagnine that. The power light still works. And when i put HD in there, the second light goes on. There is only nothing on the output. It recieves 12v strait from my sled. I opend it up and it looks like one or 2 micro thingys are fried. Damn. Sending it back is almost more expensive then buying a new. Cant comment on the unit at all, as it didnt give me any picture at all, only smoke.
Premium Members Brad Hruboska Posted June 26, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 26, 2009 I smoked a unit , and when talking to the technician at NAB he suggested that power on the composite video side might fry the comp side. I had the unit returned for repair and have not seen anything so i got the distrib here to front me a new one which has behaved perfectly. I know of three units on a reality shoot and they also have performed perfectly. Brad.
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted June 26, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 26, 2009 In other words, voltage being passed through the BNC into the Decimator? Sounds like it would do the trick. How is power getting in through there though?
Premium Members Amando Crespo Posted June 27, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 27, 2009 Sorry to hear all those problems about Decimator. I´ve one and working for several hours and many days...No problems with it. But with Aja converter 2-3 unitis smoked in one day.. I use it to convert video signal from camera to video sender and some times I have it too long time started and it rules right.
