Premium Members JobScholtze Posted January 19, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 19, 2009 yea it kinda sucks that wireless is a luxury around here.. out of curiousity, what system do you use most commonly? can it carry all of the functions of triax (intercom, tally, return, ect..)? Do you have focus pulled wirelessly too? I use the Thompson ldk 300 wireless on almost all tv shows overhere. The have a HD version now too. And yes, i have a focuspuller. I made that a standard 3 years ago and refused to work without one. He's not only pulling focus, but also gives me my cues. He has the script. We have our own intercom ssteystem that i always bring with us. In basic it works like this: The truck provides us a intercom line and 2 video line's. ( one program and one from my camera ) The intercom line we put that in our little field mixer and an extra microphone for the puller. He can mix. Becose my inear set is stereo, i have him on my left ear and the truck on my right. Works like a charm. When we have a large script, he cues me before the director da's, becose there always to late. Now, the 2 video lines are for him to see when we are cut and when not. The program signal on his second monitor we also transmitt that signal to my little casio on my rig. That way i have also program signal. The wireless camera provides tally, so thats covered also. I also bought a panasonic lcd that preforms like a vieuwfinder. It has so much crisp, that focus is easy for him. i love to zoom as much as i can, so it helps him very good. It has sd/sdi and HD. Here is the LINK Also a pic of my rig. I hope i made sence? If not, shoot. Regards Job

Premium Members Matteo Quagliano Posted January 19, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 19, 2009 Hi Job. I see you keep the zoom controller very right on gimble. Do you keep your hand just on the curve of the gimble? Thinking you use it with your thumb.

This is the right place for me. Best

Just an example the oner thread on operating... Illuminating. Very far from my skills.

Premium Members Matteo Quagliano Posted January 21, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 21, 2009 Hi Job I don't want to bother but do you by any chance have a picture of this cable or can direct me to Internet lnk? I did phone my hometown tv facilities dealer but they don't even know what I was talking about. Thanks my friend P.s. I was told that you can have a return live signal from zoom controller, is that true??? If fact there's option for Rec and Ret. What do you know? It would be nice just pushing the button to have who's on air.
Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted January 22, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 22, 2009 Hi Job, A quick question, if you don't mind me asking - how are you getting tally into your monitor? Are you using a photocell into the Tally connector on the J-Box, or did you get a cable made that plugs directly into the camera? Some of the wireless cameras over here have Tally on a breakout box with a Lemo connector. Just wondering. That Transvideo monitor is great, btw! On screen Tally is very useful! Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted January 22, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 22, 2009 on most cameras, the Ret. button will show you Program in the viewfinder only. If you could turn that output into something that you sent to your monitor, then you could achieve what you're asking..
Premium Members Matteo Quagliano Posted January 23, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 23, 2009 Hi Mike I just got home. Tonigt things went much much better. I use a Libec zoom controller that has Ret button, then Lkw 100 has a converter to switch btween viewfinder and vtr and I manage to have the program on my monitor. I've also worked with the zoom for the first time and it was very interesting and good. I got the previous show and hope to have this one that works out better. Thanks again I go to sleep. Premium Members Tim Fabrizio Posted February 4, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 Hey Matteo, How is the back? I bet after those long-ass takes it was pretty tight and sore. I did a similar job like that, my camera was Camera 5 aka "5" in the headset. Shot a live to tape circus act. They loved the mobility of the steadicam and stayed on me for 20-30 minutes stretches, and if they cut away it was for a less than a minute. Always..."READY 5?...take 5. Staying on you,5. Nice work 5. ...20 minutes later...after hearing the director/TD and producer laughing at the clowns....ok ready 2 take 2....ready 5? take 5." And on and on it went. Its just how it goes sometimes. We all have storied like it. Good luck and hapy flyin'.

Premium Members Matteo Quagliano Posted February 15, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted February 15, 2009 Suggestions from my experience: Triax thin cable Assistant good at cabling Zoom controlller with thin cable (not a Libec in my guess) Near neutral drop time (they always ask for strange angle in tv shows) Great attention to camera number and position (I cross a shot and get some bad words) Hope this can help. Matteo If i remember correct, the ldk 100 has some extra features in the menu. Go to menu ( front of the camera ) and go tp vf menu. There you can all kind of things to your vieuwfinder ( steadicammonitor ( I always turn on the Zoom meter. It shows how much zoom you have left and helps you to avoid those ugly end bumps in zooming. my 2 cents
