Premium Members Lars Erik Posted January 25, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 25, 2009 Hi all, I'm getting fed up of the tape and velcro failing in the cold. Anyone know of any tape that is cold-resistant? i.e. that will work in below zero temperatures. Thanks LE

Use it on the racecars all the time. Not sure that it would work well for us though
Premium Members Chris Flurry Posted January 26, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 26, 2009 This maybe obivious, or it maybe be helpful, When I am assisting and it is extremely cold I will take a roll of paper tape, or cloth tape and put it inside my jacket next to my body. My body heat keeps it warm and thus more tacky than it would be on my belt or tape roll. As far as velcro goes take the backing off of it, and wave the flame from a cigarette lighter across it until it gets warm and real sticky. Not sure if this helps. Premium Members Brant S. Fagan SOC Posted January 26, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 26, 2009 Gents-- My suggestion if you must add velcro or tape while outside and RFC, try heating the subjects with an open face lighting instrument so that surfaces come up to a more reasonable temperature before applying products like these. Yes, keep a stash of tape and velcro warm UNDER your layers but try and plan ahead and have a heat station ready to go. Lights work much better than hair dryers because they warm more than just the surface of metal items. Best, Brant "Ice Eater" Fagan
