Matt Juliano
Does anyone have any information regarding a weight cage? I want to start practicing on my Stedicam but I need to purchase a weight cage and so far I haven't been able to find a website that sells them. Any information would be great appreciated. ~ MJ ~

Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted January 28, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 28, 2009 I have Rob VG's weight cage. Great design. I use it occasionally for additional weight for HDV type cameras. The only pointer I'd give - if making your own, make the risers removable. You can then use it as one or two stackable weight plates. It also helps with some of the oddly-shaped cameras that are on the market nowadays. Also, it's a nice idea to fit a quick release shoe to the base, to enable you to get cameras in and out with the minimum of fuss.

Premium Members JamieSilverstein Posted January 28, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 28, 2009 Give Tom Gleason at Cine Widgets a call. He made me a great one a million years ago. Hope this helps. Jamie
Premium Members Sydney Seeber Posted January 29, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 29, 2009 I went to an industrial metal supply, picked up 2 pieces of steel, one 10 lbs, the other 15. They were end pieces, but I chose them with the idea that the shape somewhat emulated the physical feel of a full size camera, as I used a Sony Z1u to practice with. Had them drill 4 holes where I told them, which were based on balancing necessities I decided on while in the shop. Grand total... $14 and 20 minutes. Richard James Lewis
Charles, it's the MK-V one in the middle. Nice bit of kit, I've used it a few times. I think it was silly expensive tho, talking almost a grand at the time. Rick. If anyone knows about the weight cage in the middle then please post me a link or website. Thank you. Nick Brian Walters
Personally I went the route of plates as well. I got a total of four 1/4in. steel plates measuring 3" x 7" at a local metal shop, had them drill the holes, and I'm in business. I've found the setup worked really well with one lined up with my camera, and two sticking out to the sides...kinda like antlers. The fourth plate I have yet to use, as I'm trying to build up my endurance with the current weight before I add another 3 pounds.
