Premium Members Daniel Erbeck Posted February 7, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 7, 2009 Wondering if someone could tell me the best way to manage triax/fiber/coax, off the camera down the post and over your shoulder. What would be the best way to attach the cable(s) to your vest? Velcro, some type of clip, gaff tape or something totally different? I'd appreciate the help. Thanks Dan

Thanks Dan I like to use a figure 8 that you would use for climbing on the middle back or right shoulder it keeps if from taking out and slack that you from the front of you and then velcro tap on the cable and on the camera and such keeps the cable in place

The figure 8 used for climbing??? I don't climb and am really not sure what that is. Could you explain in detail a bit more??? What would be the best way to attach the cable(s) to your vest? Velcro, some type of clip, gaff tape or something totally different? I'd appreciate the help. Thanks Dan Dan, On both Triax and Fiber I use the same attachment. I use a jumper cable between either of the two and where they connect to the main cable or home run cable the end slides into a custom machined cube that strain reliefs the cable and the cube attaches to my vest on the back with a quick release. My assistant calls it the "Freedom Cube". That way I can walk away from my rig while still wearing my vest. I have had many request for this , so maybe one day I'll get around to making more and selling them But to answer your question . . . . . Basically anything that holds the cable end onto your vest will work. I have used velcro, metal clamps pipe clamps among other things. Hope that helps

Premium Members Charles Papert Posted February 8, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 8, 2009 Rob, any chance you could post pix of this? Fiber or HD-SDI jumper has become part of my daily life while we are in this awkward transitional period on what used to be "film" sets (onboard recording and HD transmission will be de rigeur eventually but I'm still dealing with a lot of cable). Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted February 9, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 9, 2009 Rob's setup is very convenient. I was filling in a few days for him last summer and his Utility made an excellent velcro setup for me that works well and you can walk from the rig. Rob, I have some detailed photos of your "Freedom Cube" but won't post them without your okay. Another great idea I picked up from Rob was creating my own wireless comtek sender from the back of the camera to earbuds using a lav mic transmitter / receiver. Less cables... tastes great! Hey Robert, Ya, don't post them since I have made some improvements on the original design of the "Freedom Cube" it know takes Triax and Fiber in the same cube and I will take some good photo's of it for all interested and then maybe I'll make some for all of you. Just out of curiosity, who would be interested in a something like this ? I'll get photo's as soon as I get a moment to post some picts

Premium Members Bryan Trieb Posted February 10, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 10, 2009 Hey Guys! I had Walter Klassen make a little bracket which is attached to the lower left side on the back of my harness for this same purpose. It holds both triax and fibre for multicam. I've not tried it with an HD/Film application but for "live" it's proven to be a real gem.

Hey Bryan, Thats nice, mine is basically the same just a little more beefy and the actual attachment comes off my vest and hangs on the stand so I can walk away from the vest. Does yours come off or do you take the connector out of your attachment each time?
Premium Members Jason Torbitt Posted February 10, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 10, 2009 Hi Rob, Sounds interesting. I'd like to know more details /spec if you are considering manufacturing a batch... Thanks J.
Premium Members Bryan Trieb Posted February 10, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 10, 2009 Hey Rob!! Yes, I have to take the connector out each time. I like your idea of the entire freedom cube being removed with connectors attached and hanging on the stand/cart. With my bracket, the connectors remove quickly and easily and I also hang the connectors on my cart......your idea seems a little more efficient however!
