Onboard Recording: PDR100 or MiniDV??

Last time I asked the German salesman it was close to €2500,-

May I point your attention to this guy:

Blue Cine

He builds this very rugged clamshells. The new one utilizes a flash recorder.

The recorder is based on ffv flash recorder. He made a really intuitive interface with instant one button push playback of the last take, various playback speeds, ff and rev, index jump through all takes. It will have a monocrome LCD display with all vital information. The backlite of the LCD will have different colors for rec., playback and low bat. We're currently investigating a auto start/stop solution. It will also have the tuner because its on the mainboard anyway. And sorry, no Display for viewing the footage. Hopefully he will be able to place it in a dionix sized housing.

It won't be cheap, means like the mini DVR Pro or a bit more but with a better interface, more playback features, a rugged housing and decent plugs for video in/out and power.

I will keep you updated.

Cheers

I've been using the PDR-100-H for 2 years and am very happy with it.

I have info and review here http://earthvideo.net/stcmmod.html

You will have to ask if he still makes the H version which has BNCs and a Pro compatible Lemo.

Sergei

All the best.

Victor.

Guys, we are sort of rehashing a topic that has been thoroughly covered here in the not-so-distant past.

The Mini DVR Pro is the most pricey contender, at around $2200 (if I remember correctly) or more. It's been around for a few years now. I think Larry McConkey uses one as well as Alec Jarnagin. Alec, I heard a few things about your unit from David Hable--do you care to weigh on this?

Just got home from a 15 hour day which was almost all Steadi so I'm not able to speak let alone type. I'll post up info soon. Short of it is - lots of noise issues when powering off the PRO 2 so I had David Hable put in a DC to DC converter. It turned out to be a huge headache for silly reasons but in the end it seems all good. Was using it today with great success. AT LAST I have an onboard recorder again. At what cost????? TOO MUCH, but I went through a Supacam and two Archos in no time and hated the menus too. Chasecam never returns phone calls and if I hadn't actually seen one I'd swear it was vaporware (its also big & heavy).
