Nice that he's wearing all white, it'll make for a much more dramatic smear zone.

That white "brick" is a self-destruct system in case of emergency. The trigger for it is coupled to the rubber underwear this guy must be wearing.

Not that this is inherently dangerous, just somewhat surprising that someone "chose" to make a shot this way.

Notice there is no protective headgear. I suggest a paper bag.

It's scary!!!

Assuming that the flat form is strong for the whole weight.

He didn't wear a proper protective cloth.

The knee pads doesn't work in this case.

It seems like he following a moving car.

Look at the road surface!

Without a face shield.... man oh man!

What if the rear wheels of the being chased car shoot back some small rocks?

And... the sand on both sides of the road!

and... the flying bugs!!

Notice that, he stood in front and partially blocking the driver view.

Then while chasing the driver might go: "Hey, you, you blocking my view..."

then the driver shifted left and right to clear his view while driving and yelling.... then to some instance he didn't notice that he's too close to the being chased car.... FADE TO BLACK.

It would take much less than that to cause a serious problem. All the mini van would have to do is turn. He's only picked in 2 spots. If the van turns at just a 1/4 of a G (the amount you'd get on an average turn) his rig will weigh an extra 15-20lbs. His upper body will weigh an extra 50 or so lbs.

I've done some kind of crazy stuff in my day but that one is just stupid.

Though I'm new to Steadicam, I'm not to the laws of physics and engineering... thats just wrong. At least he has a pillow to absorb the initial impact of the front of the van just before the to doors slam shut, cutting the tie dows that are holding him to the vehicle. The self-destruct device is obviously activated by the black rip cord running over his sholder adn the top of the van.

viewing the picture again, i now realize that the c4 under the rig is just like the anti-missile defense system that tanks have. as impact occurs, the c4 explodes and blows the object impacting (read- car!) in another direction! actually a good plan if it all occurs as the straps are cut by the slamming doors at the same instant! this would throw the operator away from the impact and he would land on his knees, saved by the knee pads! genius! thank god i looked closer and saw the brilliance of this plan!

Hi all;

This took some planning, which is even scarier.

Look, he has turned his hat backwards so that it doesn't blow off in the wind.

(He expects to go that fast, yikes!)

He expects to need the hat later too.

This is the worst thing I've seen since one guy talked about riding on the strut of a helicopter (rig and all) and expecting it to gently sit him down and he would step off and continue the shot. Everyone blanched at that description too. (Don't do it anyone, monumental bad idea.)

I do love the comments, very funny all.

just one question, will the knee pads really help in a head on collision? also, what's the white brick taped under his lower electronics? c4 maybe? just wondering.

Of course those knee pads are gonna help. In case you didn't see (you must look closely) he has lisagav applied to them. In the event of a collision he will fly off and slide on his knee pads to safety, very smart on his account. And you thought lisagav was only for gimbals!
