Hi Everybody!

My sled has the tiffen 7" LCD monitor on it. At the top centre of the monitor is a little red plastic rectangle which I can only assume to be a tally light. I have just recently begun flying my rig on some TV broadcast projects I was thinking how nice it would be to get this little tally on my monitor working.

Does ANYONE out there know how to get this silly little light working?? Also, does anyone out there have a manual for this monitor for which I can beg borrow or steal a copy?

Thanks for your help!

Daniel, what rig are you flying and which monitor is it?

HD/SDI, component & composite?

Hi Daniel:

If it's a Ultra, Clipper or Ultra 2 on the front nose of the sled there is a multi-pin DIN connector that sort of looks like an S Video female. If you have that, there is a cable you can get from Tiffen that plugs into there and has a photo sensor on the other end. You tape that photo sensor over the tally light on the camera. When you get tally at camera, that sensor closes the circuit, which feeds down the rig to the monitor tally. Not very elegant but it works. Some of the rigs have a sensitivity screw recessed on the side of the nose that allows you to adjust the tally to dim properly as they switch or dissolve your shot.

I don't know if the Masters, EFP or Archer has this feature.

Good luck!

Robert

Hi Daniel

If the monitor is the OZL 7000, I used to have one and if you look at the back there is a 3.5mm mono socket connector for remote tally input. This is basically just an open circuit (powered by the monitor) that when you close it, the tally lights. As mentioned by Robert, if you have that facility with cable from the sled, this is where you'd put it.

I only have a Master Broadcast, so I bought a DIY sensor kit and other required bits from Australia's version of Radio Shack and built my own, again not pretty but it does the job.

Good luck :D

Cheers

Norbert

Thanks to EVERYONE for all the input!!

Just to answer a few tech questions:

I'm flying a Masters sled (Used to be an Elite, is now a 12 / 24v Mongrel).

Norbert, The Monitor has what I think is a 3.5mm input on the front, possible for the same use as you described on the OZL 7000 monitor.

Robert, I don't have that DIN connector on the nose of my sled. Would have been nice to have. Looks like i might be running a wire from a sensor all the way down to the monitor.

and Rob, it's a pretty basic Standard def, monitor.

Once again, THANKS TO EVERYONE for the input. If there are anymore ideas out there I'd truly appreciate them!
