Socket block on PRO vest

Hello all,

 

I rented a PRO vest for a very tight location yesterday. When I was prepping for the shot, my Steadyrig Silver Spring arm would not fit into the socket block on the PRO vest. I ended up pulling a socket block off a hard mount and putting it on the rental vest, so I was fine.

 

I was under the impression that all socket blocks were a standard size. I'm going to call George and get his take on it, but have any of you experienced this issue?

 

I know it's rare that you aren't using your own harness/vest, as this was a special circumstance that required I rent a front mounted vest. The location was just too small for my Klassen harness (27" wide).

I ran into this when I bought a socket block for a hardmount from PRO, George told me that they,PRO, runs their tolerances tighter than other manufacturers.

A little prussian blue showed me where they were and I polished down the high spots on the arm, very minor. I had a 3a arm and a 3a vest at the time, the arm fit my PRO vest perfectly when I bought it.

Tolerances have been all over the place over the years (since CP is no longer, I'll just blame them!). When I've had occasion to be around other operators with gear (workshops, demos, etc) I've had some arms (all non-PRO obviously) fit my PRO vest and others not. I tried two Master arms back to back - one fit; one didn't. Same with 3a arms. Go figure.
