Please see the link above about the new Dionic HC battery, which is an 85wh lithium ion battery which can handle 10 amps of current. I don't have pricing yet, but expect it to be around the same as a Dionic 90 and should be available after NAB. The current chargers will work, but just may not show up on the LCD properly, but the charge routine will be OK. There will probably just be firmware upgrades for the QUAD 2702 and DUAL 2722 chargers, since they do have an LCD. Since the battery is similar to the Dionic 90 and the charge characteristics are the same, any chargers that do not have an LCD may not need an upgrade. Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted March 5, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 5, 2009 For the first time since I started with steadicam and had a collection (32 I believe) of Anton Bauer Compac's, I have now one size batteries for all my needs. 8 Dionics and 4 Hytrons... same case, same size, same cut outs in the case or standby bag... how nice... Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted March 6, 2009 Moderators Report Share Posted March 6, 2009 OK, so I spoke with Paul and did a few visualizations regarding battery fit on a PRO 2 base. As far as I can tell, there will be no problem with fitting any of the three positions UNLESS you are using an XCS level with an XCS Level to PRO 2 mount. If you want to use one of these HC Dionics on the front battery position you will have clearance issues because the side of the battery will hit the level before it is locked in. It could be argued that it is overkill to use this kind of battery here in the first place, but some people may wish to own only one type of battery or it might depend on which battery configuration block you are using. Anyway, I think this could easily be fixed with a spacer that pushes the XCS level out an 1/8" to 1/4". When someone in LA has all this in hand, it would benefit us all if they stopped by Greg's and showed him the issue. Then we can figure out a popper spacer, etc. Again, all of this should be verified once parts are in hand (my observations are from looking at the battery base with Paul on the phone!). Oh, I feel compelled to add that I have been using Dionic 90s for a little over a year and they have been amazing. Never met a camera they didn't like although I assume they will choke on a 435 at high speed (ironically I have not seen one in a couple of years) so I do keep a few Performers around. So, as excited as I am about these new batteries, I see no need to replace a system that works until they are dead (in other words boys & girls, don't fret if you just bought Dionic 90s!). Paul tells me that the HCs will have an overall better life cycle though (for our purposes) since they are taking less abuse from us in the sense they were designed to take the high amp beating. I literally took the booth apart, trying to make pictures and compare the different items... According to the website is the HC actually heavier then the 90. 1.8lbs for the HC and 1.7lbs for the Dionic 90, even though everybody at the booth was telling me the opposite... and holding them side by side, the HC felt lighter too. I made some comparison pictures of the two and the HC is quite larger... in the eye of the beholder... Not quite sure if I care much about the "again" new LCD display.
