Premium Members Jerry Franck Posted March 12, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 12, 2009 Hi all, has anyone thought or tried to put the Tiffen UltraBrite 2 HD monitor on a PRO2 sled? (After doing a lot of research, this just seems to be the perfect HD 1400 nits monitor out there...) Would they work well together and what mounts would you recommend? Any sharing of experiences are appreciated! THANKS! Jerry

The Ultra bright uses a double bar mount and the power+video signal is hiroshe, but you can do it throught othes ways... The monitor has many in/output connectors and for power suply too. Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted March 30, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 30, 2009 The PRO II RIG is currently not HD-SDI capable. You can however feed the monitor with an analog composite NTSC/PAL or externally hardwire HD-SDI. The UltraBright is a modified version of the Boland 8" Daybright Boland If you don't need HD, take a look at the very good Lumavec/IMP Blackbird from NEBTEK, around 4K for basically the same functions. Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted March 30, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 30, 2009 Jens- I'm not sure what you mean by the UltraBrite is a modified version of the Boland 8". What makes up the UltraBrite, the panels, boards, high-brighting, packaging, etc., do not come from Boland or any other monitor manufacturer. Regardless, one other factor that a side by side comparison will show up clearly, is the difference in the anti-reflective coatings.. not something defined well by the specs. Jerry Hi Jerry, thanks for the clarification, I was under the impression the Ultrabright is based on a Boland LCD. However the Lumavec (IMP) Blackbird has an excellent AR coating (mil spec) that together with it's Transflective LCD makes it fully sunlight usable. I'm happy to meet in Glendale and compare the two. Best, Jens "A transflective liquid crystal display is a liquid crystal display (LCD) that reflects and transmits light (transflective = transmissive + reflective). Under bright illumination (e.g. when exposed to daylight) the display acts mainly as a reflectve display with the contrast being constant with illuminance. The essential component for a transflective LCD is the transflector, a polymer sheet that is reflecting and transmitting at the same time." Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted March 31, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 31, 2009 The PRO II RIG is currently not HD-SDI capable. You can however feed the monitor with an analog composite NTSC/PAL or externally hardwire HD-SDI. FYI: In the works and coming soon. Saw the prototype and the parts. It will require a new rewired upper junction, new center post cable (that will fit in your old post) and a new rewired lower junction box (battery cage stays, just 6 screws and it's off). Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted March 31, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 31, 2009 I was very impressed with the blackbird (checked out Jens' in November) but was unimpressed with the availability. Wanted to buy one after seeing it in person but was told they (the manufacturer) wouldn't have anymore built until March. Maybe they are available in more quantities now but at the time I wasn't too excited to spend $4k on something there were so few of. rb
Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted March 31, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 31, 2009 no instant gratification here....... ;) I own two of those Blackbirds and I'm very happy with them, no problems so far. Premium Members Jerry Franck Posted March 31, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 31, 2009 Erwin, I was told GPI has no prototype yet... Do you have some secret info :) I'm in the process of buying a used PRO2 and my only concern is HD when using cameras like the RED. Downconverters for now I guess... Also buying my sled without any monitor so I'm looking for a good HD monitor to put on there like tiffen, boland or transvideo... Let's see what NAB brings... Oh well, don't want this thread to out of hand...most of the stuff has been discussed in other threads i guess... thanks to all of you for your insights...
