Eric K. Boucher Posted March 13, 2009 Report Share Posted March 13, 2009 Hey All, I was curious as to the weight of the hvx200 with the redrock m2/micro X. I know that the flyer le is capable of it's weight in general. I have been asked to do "low mode" for my next shoot. I do not have a low mode mount. I know that it would be easy to just flip the rig, but the HVX handle has a threaded mount, would it be safe to attach the plate to that, still flip the rig but have the camera up right [which would avoid "flip in post"]. And I'm thinking it would allow the shot to be lower than mounting the plate under the camera like normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Eric. Either way I would just shoot with the camera upside down. I was more worried about the stress on the handle. I just had a spring blow out on me a couple weeks ago, already back in an action, but I'm less interested in maxing out the arm to get as low as possible....should I be? While it seems sturdy enough for the camera itself, I shot with a Redrock M2 rig this December on an HVX - we wouldn't even pick up the setup by the handle alone, let alone hang it by the handle for a shot. Plus, hanging from the handle wouldn't be very advantageous, as it'll be several inches behind the camera setup's CG, probably keeping you from getting it in balance easily, if at all. See picture below, I believe that is Afton Grant's set up with Brant Fagan's Video lowmode bracket. But I still feel that attaching it from the bottom and flip it in post is the way to go. I talked to numerous Video techs and Post guys... that flip is such a non-issue, i don't know why we are still debating. Last time I got laught at when I asked... Brandon Thompson Posted March 22, 2009 Report Share Posted March 22, 2009 Eric, I own the exact setup that you are questioning, except I have the standard flyer (one section post). You shouldn't have a problem with weight I dont. I agree with the others, don't mount from the handle flip it in post. I would think that using the 2 section post you should be able to get a decent low mode shot. Depending on your battery mount you might need a propac and a trim pac to balance, or multiple v-mounts stacked. I would like to hear how it works out for you. With my single section post, I am unable to get much in terms of low mode. I have expressed interest to steadicam about buying the flyer le sled, but was told it is not an option, wierd.
