You can get them as generic or brand... The guys that are making the HU-2 upgrade have some with fuel gauge and sell for $45.- I got some from Preston for $50.- and some from Fry's at $40.-... But any price is beating the $350.- for the HU-2 Batteries. $15.- seams very low, you might get some batteries like the cheapo from China that will last you 50 cycles and then you have to get new ones, or spend a little more and get 250 to 300 or more cycles out of the batts... I've never used it, but he does great work in general. Brad, I first bought a couple of generic batteries for $30 from B&H, but they wouldn't charge on my chargers so I returned them to discover that the Sony batteries were only $35 (again B&H). Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted March 25, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 25, 2009 I have used various knock off brand batteries for various uses and while some of them work well most of them don't seem to live up to the stated capacity and don't have nearly the life of a higher quality battery. It seems that a lot of people have been turned off knock off brand lithium ion batteries due to the fires that were caused by them in the past. Mine where $40.- for 7.4 Volt 1800mA I had heard from assistants the same..."Oh you have the new Handunit... where is your charger and do you have spares?" game but I have still to change a battery on set. Actually I do to the fact that I never charge them because they live usually for a week on my unit... I pop 'em on at the beginning of the day and a couple of days later I pop the next one on... I have 5 batteries... I thought I would go through them like popcorn... Oh well at least I have enough and as they fit also the Focus Iris unit and the wireless Micro force... Hey Laurence, I have done extensive testing on many manufacturer's versions of these batteries,and the ones we have selected for Omnishot have the best cost/capacity ratio I have seen. You can pay a lot more for brand name and get 5-10%more capacity, or you can spend a lot less and get what you pay for. On a HU2, our standard size (which is half of the size/weight of the OEM battery) it lasted 10H run time. The high capacity one lasted for 16H runtime (under normal conditions) and still weighs less. The thing to remember is that all batteries lose capacity over time, and most people who own FIZ units wait too long to replace them, because they are so expensive. Using these M style ones, they are so inexpensive that you can afford to replace them more often, and always have strong ones. Most productions consider them "Expandables" at this price. I'm going to be ordering some of your batteries soon (I like the meter on the back, it's one of the issues of the OEM ones that you can't tell what state of charge it is until you put it on the handunit).
