Amelia Cutadean
It has been proposed to me that I use a Steadicam to get the shot of a newborn foal taking it's first steps in a field. From past experience the foal tends to come out of the barn and run around the fence line and in the case of last years shoot of this same thing it ran directly into the fence. Needless to say I am wondering how a Steadicam would benefit this shot? My first instinct would be to say that this is a shot better suited for a camera on sticks. Am I correct or is there a way this works using a Steadicam? Amelia
Premium Members Reid Russell Posted April 7, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 7, 2009 It's possible to do it with a steadicam but you will probably get better results on sticks. Trying to chase a foal around would be difficult considering the foal doesn't even know what direction it will go let alone you. Besides I don't think the mare would like the fact that some human wearing a crazy contraption is chasing her offspring around. I don't think you would be able to get as close as you need to. Good luck
Amelia Cutadean
The initial conversation actually said nothing about chasing the foal around the field which at least would make more sense as a Steadicam shot even if it were somewhat impossible. What was proposed was this...."We thought you could stand in the middle of the field and just pan around as the foal ran around the field." This is why I am thinking this is a camera on sticks kind of shot.
