You must be a member of Local 600 to attend and you MUST RSVP. Here are the details: Camera Operators Panel Seminar Saturday, April 25, 2009 10:00am to 2:00pm -at- The Guild Offices 80 Eighth Ave (corner 14th St), 14th floor, New York Continental breakfast just before the Seminar; Lunch/Reception immediately following. The focus of the Operators' Panel will be to provide Eastern Region members, especially Camera Assistants, an opportunity to hear first-hand from our leading Camera Operators how they define their roles working in feature films and television production. We'll have a panel of six to eight Operators discussing and showing examples of their work in film/digital productions, including single and multi-camera work in feature films, TV episodic, sit-coms and reality shows. We'll have a Q&A with attendees, discussing the following topics: What is the Camera Operator's relationship to the Director, DP, DIT and other members of the film/digital crew? What is the correct set etiquette and protocol practiced by the Camera Operator? How does it differ working in film vs. digital environments and episodic vs. sit-com multi-camera operating? What are the Local 600 work rules that define the Operator's job and staffing requirements? What are the responsibilities of the A Camera Operator? B and C Camera Operators? Steadicam Operators? What is the SOC organization and who can join? What are the new demands for the Camera Operator working with various digital cameras in either "big or small productions?" Reservations are required. Perhaps in the members only section of the Cinematographer's Guild website? Well, of course this list could still change because of availability (I'm working an overnight Friday so I may show up with one eye closed - or not at all if they can find a way to keep the sun from coming up). Likely panelists: Bill Coleman Ken Ferris Mike O'Shea Derek Walker Dennis Livesey Peter Nolan Alain Onesto myself The panel is being moderated by Dejan Georgevich, ASC. One of the goals is to get operators from various types of shows (movies, TV, live events, soap operas, etc). Again, the list is not finalized. FYI, I will be talking a bit about the SOC and have literature there as well. We need to get New York and the east coast more involved. Doesn't have to be great quality at all. Doesn't even have to be video. Even audio only will suffice and make a great podcast that can be downloaded from itunes. I'll shoot an e-mail to someone at the guild. Considering what a small percentage of us are able to physically attend, wouldn't it be awesome if we could do this with all our seminars? I did ask permission to discuss the SOC which Dejan graciously agreed to. I think their plate is full unless some one drops out though, but Jeff feel free to call the hall. Ramon Just got off the phone with Robbie Moore, the event coordinator. He tells me they're "thinking" about recording it and have had a few requests. They have to put together a budget that includes paying an operator to come out and shoot the event. These kind of expenditures can be a dealbreaker. Heck, if it were me I'd be happy to grab my handicam and volunteer a few hours of my time to shoot the event. Unfortunately I'm two thousand miles away. So if there are any East Coast operators or AC's who might like to volunteer a simple video camera and a few hours of their time to help local 600 film this event, there would be many grateful camera brothers including myself. Maybe there's somebody willing to do some simple editing and post this thing online.
