Jens,

Don't mean to sound harsh, but which of those pictures makes you want this monitor? All three remind me of why I still use a green screen. In a word, yuk!

Hi Alec,

unfortunately I did not have any green screen to compare it to since I sold my PROII monitor last year and the reason was that this monitor is better viewable outside.

Please feel free to submit the same kind of in full sun pictures of your TB-6. I would love to see them.

Digital pictures are not always helping, what can I say. The truth is when you compare the two and I did, the Blackbird has clear advantages: View ability inside and outside (no sun hood or flags required), color, cost.

And by the way I'm not trying to convince anybody to change from a TB-6 to an LCD. But if you are in the market for an LCD, take a look at this one.

This forum is all about personal experiences and feedback. That's why I posted these pictures.

All I hear from people on the set (DP's/Directors/AC's/Operators) is, "wow, this monitor looks great"

We will see at the shootout.

Transvideo SuperBright prices:

I do not know where the price difference of 5 to 6K between a Transvideo HD and another HD comes from but it is not accurate. Unless some HD monitors are now given away at $0.

If we talk about Standard Def SuperBright, the Transvideo 6" Cine3ASB is in the $3000.

If we talk about the HD+SD SuperBright the price range is $6K INCLUDING WAVEFORM YRGB, VECTORSCOPE, HISTOGRAM, EXPOSURE CONTROL, COLOR FRAMELINES AND MATTING. All these features work in both HD and SD def.

Anyone has a monitor that can do that for less than 10K??? So at this price, the Transvideo HD SuperBright is the lowest price in its category.

AND you can add the digital Horizon that works both in SD def and in HD for approx. $800.

If anyone prefers buying 2 monitors of lesser quality for more money than a single higher end-one.... I do not get the logic.

Hello Marianne,

thanks for the input.

Some of the confusion might stem from the fact that Transvideo does not list prices on their website?

You forgot to mention that the Cinemonitor III SB does not have integrated frame-lines, an important feature, on the other hand things like WAVEFORM YRGB, VECTORSCOPE, HISTOGRAM, EXPOSURE CONTROL are not high on my to have list.

First and foremost is VISIBILITY under all conditions, weight, frame-lines, build quality and mounting options.

See you at the monitor shootout?

Best,

Jens

Marianne,

No doubt your monitor is great (never seeing it ,but heard lot of good thinks),but everyone can make his own choice witch monitor to use.

Almost non of us need any of the options like : WAVEFORM YRGB, VECTORSCOPE, HISTOGRAM, EXPOSURE CONTROL.

My point is that in a world financial crisis difference between 4k+ and 6k+ can be killer for each one of us .

So please don't be so passionate and let the people choose!

Best Regards from Sofia!

avalability and customer service is also what you pay for with a transvideo. I cannot wait to see how they all compare. I've seen the Blackbird and it's very nice, though I've never seen any of the other lcd's outdoors.

Actually (and I know there is a special corner of hell reserved for those that start their sentences with 'actually'), those are very useful functions. And as for the passion, that comes with being French!

Transvideo rocks!

My 2 cents.

I own a Cine III for years. That thing rocks. Now i use the HD version. That monitor rocks again. The extra functions not usefull? LMAO, i use them on a daily basis. Overexposer, very very handy. Waveform? Yes, when i do chromakey i find that option very usefull. I can go on, but bottomline is in my case, i rather choose a compagny that stands for service, good products, etc for many years then "trying" something else and find out i dont like it enough.

Transvideo, its nr 1 on my list. And no, i dont work for them and the difference between the 4 or 6k as you mentioned, is a no brainer to me. Some things has to be very good and cant be 50%

Getting there guys. We are currently hard at work trying to figure out the venue. Right now we are shooting for second half of June. Most manufacturers have expressed interest and are onboard.

Regarding the engineering functions on the Transvideo, it seems obvious to say but a DP/Steadicam operator will have more use for these than one who is just doing Steadicam.

Hey Everyone, Has anyone seen the new smallhd monitor?

It doesn't have some very important features like high brightness, or hd-sdi. But the Monitor is 8.9 inches, comes with an hdmi port and Native resolution is 720p. if you can squint and use a sun shade. the monitor is only $799.00

Has anyone used one of these?

I think the link is smallhd.com

Two pretty heavy strikes against it, especially not having HD-SDI. At that point it's more of a "hobbyist" monitor for Steadicam use. The case and mounting points (and the fact that you can order it with a yoke) are good though. I'm keeping an eye on them for higher-end versions down the road.
