This is a picture I took today of the Sony EX3 mounted straight to the camera plate on a Flyer LE. As you can see, the screw hole plate on the Sony is the only thing touching the steadicam plate! This remaining (and ridiculous) gap needs to be shimmed before even attempting to fly these cameras. There is only about a half an inch of contact on the bottom of these cameras! Hope this helps a lot of Flyer and Pilot users who are experiencing jitter in their image when using these cameras.
David Williams
I never had an issue with my EX3 on my Fyler-LE, probably because I used a long release plate which fitted the length of the EX3 base. I did end up buying one of these though, DM-Accessories EX3 Base Plate, mostly for added peace of mind.
Premium Members Kevin Andrews SOC Posted May 15, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 David, that is a nice little accessory plate there. I bet that makes a nice even contact space. I think I will add some thin sticky foam to the bottom of the camera to help shim it up. (poor man's solution) ;)
