Hello and happy new year to everyone out there!

This is my first posting this year, And I hope some of you might

be able to help me...

I have a MK-V rig and a Master film ( back up ). My problem is that

MK-V do not presently make any Electronic level ( EL ) . and after speak

to the good people at Tiffen, I have decided not to move the EL from my

Master. Question : Only unit I know about is XCS , I would like some

comments from users out there...

Prices..? reliability..? is it compatible with all major systems..?

Best regards

You said you have an MK-V, but what monitor do you have?

You'd have to give Greg Bubb a call to see if his PDL is compatible with other monitors. It might require a modification to work with other monitors.

The price is $2,700

I have one with my TB-6 and I love it.

I'm a big fan of not having to take your eyes OFF the monitor to "verify" your level. Bubble levels are usually placed just off the viewing area of the monitor, forcing you to look AWAY from the picture for just a split second. And in dark situations, the bubble level is hard to see.

As for reliablility, well, Greg Bubb makes it, not much else needs to be said there. Top notch customer service too.

Give him a call or email him, he might be able to modify the PDL to work with another monitor (I'm guessing since you asked about the PDL you don't have a

TB-6).

Good luck

I use a XCS bubble level with a Transvideo Cine II for quite some time now. Since the signal is fed into the live video signal to the monitor by leading it through the XCS I guess it will work with any monitor. Call Greg, he is a really nice guy and will mount any connector you wish. For me he used a single cord carrying the whole signal chain back and forth since I had Markus from BaerBel build a bypass switch and a 5 pin Lemo connector in my rig.

The XCS is reliable and very easy to access.

Flemming,

Im in the same position as you in that i also use a MK-V sled (with a Mk-V LCD) so i dont have an electronic bubble (and im really misssing it!). In Sept/Oct of last year i rang Marrel about the Electronic level that they are working on and they hoped to have something ready in Jan/Feb 04 so it might be worth your while giving them a call.

Do let us all know what you think of the V2 Gimbal (thinking of buying one myself).

I cannot endorse any of Greg Bubb's products too highly. Beautifully and carefully engineered with the best support in the business. Worth every penny. I have depended upon his level for years, and when I wanted to run it at 24v+ he developed a new power supply and delivered it in less than a week. Fantastic!!

Can't say it more simply than this. Greg is great and his products are just as good. No, I'm not his brother in law, just a very happy owner of an XCS Gimbal, Level, and Monitor Bracket. If I had to do it over again, besides coming back as a blonde, I'd buy one of his sleds and monitors, with out hesitation. His service and his attention to his customers is of the best in the business. No operator is too big or too small for Greg to listen to and try to help. You gotta appreciate that.

  • 5 weeks later...

so i'm working with this ultra and it's sexy and all that. not sure the model number, but it's got a fancy lcd monitor with all sorts of bells and whistles.

the electronic level works great when it's in regular mode, but when i go into low-mode (spinning the monitor to keep it upright) the level goes all kablooey. ie: the lines only line up when the sled is on an angle that could only be called level by one of those dudes in the old v8 tomato juice ads.

any thoughts my friends?
