Oh how I hate Hirose connectors I would have gone the Lemo route

Me too... that meant rewiring at least one of the three choices I have on the Ultra rig and needless to say that the modulus is Hirose also... again, my objective was to stay with existing. BTW, other than Lemo being a far superior connector in the feel and method of connection, why do you hate Hirose so much? Same feelings for Fischer? Just when did you start feeling this way? Was it from a childhood experience Eric?

I never liked Fischer or Hirose either. I was at Terry West's yesterday and he demonstrated why fischer connectors suck balls when compared to Lemo. The inside half-moon thingy on the Fischer often spins allowing the connector to be engaged incorrectly. Lemo has a keyway machined into the plug that will keep it from spinning and blowing stuff up. I guess if you always handled your stuff yourself it wouldn't really matter but assistants often just jam a connector in and spin while they are pushing until the connector goes in. I have seen many modulus and a few canatrans fried because of this.

Hirose just sucks because they are small and stupid with wonky pins -- and they smell and don't tip and steal your girlfriend and key your car and vomit on your dog, or maybe I have them confused with...

When I was thinking about a mod, I also looked at the half dozen cables I already had for my modulus that isn't getting as much use with all the HD work. So I took the power approach of using these existing cables and added a Hirose 6pin. Then I went a step further to add a power/video output on the other side to send power and the down converted signal to my modulus using preexisting cables

I have power cables made by Terry and Wolf (all of course do excellent work) but I found that a Lectrosonic power cable is a simple ( and inexpensive) emergency backup for a Decimator if it still has the original power connector. Many sound guys have these cables stuffed away and never used. It has a Hirose connector and the Lectros use the same slide in power connector that comes on the Decimator. I know it's used on the older 190 and 195 Lectros, not sure about their newer models. After I confirmed it worked, the audio guy gave me the cable saying he had plenty and rarely used them. Bought another on Ebay for $25.

I'll eventually get mine refitted with better connector, but for now I have a good backup.

I like Alfeo's approach integrating the modulus 3000. I wish I had seen this before I ordered my cables. Terry West and I decided to try something a little different and daisy chain the decimator off of the BFDs 2 pin power. This seemed like a clean approach but definitely reliant upon having my BFD in the chain. I will have to let you guys know how it works out when it arrives.
