I demoed the NebTek for about two months and despite the fact that Transvideo was double the price I decided to go with the new Transvideo SBL Evolution. It's bright, crisp, well-made, comes in a professionally crafted sealed housing and has all the features I want, plus a bunch of extras making it very useful for ACs, DITs and DPing. The bracketry and mounting options are robust and well thought out. The new focus assist feature is great for ACs and also when pulling your own focus.

 

Marianne and Noell at Transvideo couldn't have been more accommodating and knowledgeable with wiring options for my rig, including tally and program return for live work. Frankly they GET IT and understand the sleds and operating about as close as you can without being an operator. Despite being just a two-person office in LA, both of them are responsive and empowered to assist and make decisions; the phones are answered all day and calls / emails are returned promptly.

 

Also, Marianne was very responsive and open to investigating how and IF we can use the lower "Data area" portion of the screen as a "picture-in-picture" area to add program return for live shows which would eliminate the need for a second program monitor. Again, they get it but no promises on the PIP for now.

 

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Finally, after nearly nine months on the "Great Monitor Search" I'm on to the next items on my list.

Thanks Ron, no they don't literally flip the LCD screen internally, you mount the monitor upside down if you want that. I have the bracket but for now I'm trying to adapt to operate with the face of the monitor flat/tabled which gives me a great angle of view and there's still enough viewing angle to tip it up if I want. So far, so good!

It's an interesting point, but if I had the choice, I probably wouldn't flip mine. Laying it flat hides half its profile within the CoG monitor bracket, reducing windage slightly.

Never had the feeling that i didnt see enough on this monitor. I love this thing big time. As a matter of fact, i bought a second one as a spare. Its now on my second rig.

I had demoed the Transvideo last year for six weeks and now that I have had mine for almost two weeks, the alleged viewing angle issue that came up during the shootout was basically a non-issue (at least for me); I never did operate with my monitor tilted so extreme that I would be looking at it down from the top. Usually just facing me which is not a problem at all. It's not like you can't see it from the top.

 

Tabling the face among other things is something I'm experimenting with these days and so far there's no need at all to flip the monitor. However, I do have the top bracket for it as I'll be using this monitor in other applications and may need to top hang it from a monitor arm.

This is no conspiracy, we just learned at the shootout that pretty much all LCD's are equally worthless in the daylight (some are absolute gavno) so the emergence of a new monitor isn't exciting unless...dare I say...one can see it better than the others in THE SUN.

 

So, take pictures of it outside in the daylight with the sun at different angles. Even with the sun directly reflected on the screen and let's see if any picture is visible (you saw the pictures on previous pages...replicate them and show us how good it is). If it kicks ass in the sun and the price, features, build quality and customer service is good/equal to the others then maybe someone will get excited.

I have build the firestone for myself and post it here.Then a lot of people was interested,then I've made the HD model,then send one to the shootout ,then found investor,the found someone to make it and then.....exited ....and then you know.

Let me tell you all that it starts like making one for myself and turns out investing every single cent I have to make ALL of us Happy!

Never have a penny back ,but I can ashore you that for the price it will be THE BEST!

At the end I am one of you guys belive it or not!

Seeing $8000+ monitors next to $2500 monitors with little to no difference in picture quality in the sun (not talking customer service, build quality or features so please nobody get your panties in a twist) was really a bummer. We all thought there'd be a clear cut winner and in my opinion the best ones sucked equally and the others I won't even mention because they were garbage in the daylight. Is your new monitor better/brighter/easier to see than the one you had at the shootout? What will the price be?

You are right!No matter the price,everybody using the same panels.Some are saying 550 Nit,the others 1100 NIT,belive me all the same.As a reference :I have never seen Nebtek's solar monitor,but I can bet we are using the same panel.

As for mine,It is not brighter or anything it is just 16:9 and does have this LED level.Also There are no bugs (as far as I know so far),but who knows I have post it 15 minutes after I have closed it.Now is working for a week without switching it off .

About the price range solid aluminum 3k usd,sheet metal 2.4k usd(with level).Level sensor is external for aluminum model (optional for the other) and is extremely small,so it can be installed into ANY sled.

I'll do it into my IIIa sometime within the end of this month.
