Just one more piece information:

The Transvideo 6" HD SuperBright monitor that was at the rotisserie yesterday draws exactly 1.15Amp at 12v. That is to say that you can run this monitor with a Dionic 90 battery for 6.5 hours none stop at full brightness. The monitor accepts any voltage between 10v and 36v DC.

I would be glad to read feedback from Transvideo 6"HD owners about the power consumption of their particular serial number.

Anyone is welcome to stop by our office to check the power consumption of any of the monitors with have here. We will be glad to hook up the amp-meter for you.

I LOVE MY TRANSVIDEO HD. IS SIMPLY THE BEST!

I presume you tested the HD6 against all it's competitors before making such a statement.

in your opinion. Those of us at the shoot picked the Nebtek over the Transvideo, Same for PRO-GPI on the HD rig.

I own A Nebtek 70HDS as a "second directors monitor". great for the price. BUT it doesn't get even close to the transvideo.

FYI I also own a TB6 i haven't used it in the last two years. and probably never will.

On the Rotisserie The Green Screens beat the LCD's hands down and the Nebtek Beat the transvideo

Guys, being Steadicam operators we are well known for being an opinionated bunch but I for one don't think it will do much good to draw any lines in the sand. I've been asked a number of times which was the "winner" from the shoot-out; I've generally responded that while I might have my own thoughts on this, the point was for everyone to make up their own mind and there were plenty of different opinions out there. I will say that the four LCD's that were most often mentioned to me (in no particular order) were the Transvideo, Marshall, Nebtek and Blackbird, which is pretty consistent with what has been posted here. And yes, it was hard to dispute the benefits of the green screens over the LCD's for pure viewability. But of course, everyone has a different formula of what attributes of a monitor add up to their ideal.

Sadly, I have just about given up on the photographer who is not responding to my phone calls and emails for unknown reasons, thus at this point I don't know if the comparative pictures will ever see the light of day.

I must apologise on behalf of my fellow Transvideo users. We are a passionate bunch—it's probably contagious.

It's just when you are working outside in brilliant sunshine, and the wind is blowing in the right direction, you sometimes scent this faint whiff of Pastis in the air...

Hey Eric!

You're very positive in your comments on the NebTek and I don't know them at all, nor was I able to see the shootout but I'm within a week or so of buying a Transvideo. I do know you are very discerning and particular about products.

You clearly like the image better on the NebTek but they are playing catch up on some of the features. If all things were equal as in price between the two do you still feel the NebTek is a better image display?

Also, we've all been led on in the past by manufacturer's "vaporware" and promises, not to say that NebTek is or would do that but do you know them or know of them well enough to feel confident that they'll deliver in a timely manner? Anyone know them or have extensive experience with them?

This isn't a challenge question, I'm just trying to read between the lines and tea leaves since a $3500 monitor that doesn't ever follow through with the features I want is not really a bargain or the best for me.

Thanks!

Robert

for those of you who weren't there, you shouldn't think the transvideo did poorly. It did not in my opinion. But it didn't out perform the others mentioned either.

I expected it to really out shine the rest (we are purely talking viewability here) but was surprised how well other monitors performed in comparison. In my opinion, the blackbird was the easiest to see of the 4 lcd's Charles mentioned. I didn't see too much difference in the marshall, the nebtek or the transvideo in the sunlight (but I was pretty drunk and exhausted from making a vat of Lisagav the night before). The transvideo is obviously packed with great features and an excellent build quality to help explain the $3k price difference -- but, excepting the absence of an flg, there was little difference in the sunlight except the price tag.

and Gus...after this comparison there are several new believers in the green screen. You should sell that bitch to one of us suckers over here (since you don't use it and never will) -- it's sad to know such a great piece of equipment is in the hands of someone who doesn't appreciate it.

Put it this way. At GPI's Intro party for the HD rig, The owner of Nebtek was there and wanted to know what WE, wanted. Now he's including them in the monitor. He's doing framelines and figuring out a way to put in a level. The battery mass has been centered (mass not mount)

It's a native 16x9 monitor, it's got great service behind it (I've been dealing with Nebtek for 10+ years) and it's almost a third the price of the transvideo....

The choice for me is easy if I were in the market.

As the Western Regional Sales Manager for Marshall Electronics, I would like to thank Charles and everyone else for their efforts with the Great Daylight Monitor Shootout. It was exciting to see different monitors cooking on the spit in temperatures exceeding 140° F (we measured with our IR reader). All of the displays were pushed to the edge of their operating parameters.

After reading through some of the posts in this thread, I would like to share some of my impressions. The comments and observations made by the attendees are astute and chock full of information that a manufacturer like ourselves would be hard-pressed to extract out of a invitation-only focus group. Great job folks! I want to personally thank each and every attendee, as we (Marshall Electronics) need to hear from you so that we can be a better supplier to your segment of the industry.

With that said, I invite all who attended and/or have read this thread to contact us directly for more information on the 3 monitors that we had on display. We provide 48 hour loaners to those who would like an evaluation in their operating environment. Please contact Bernie Keach at bkeach@marshallelectronics.net with all comments, questions, and inquiries. We look forward to next year's gathering.

Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Bernie Keach

Bernie, any chance of adding adjustable framelines and image flip functions to your monitor in the near future? Those are the two big things making it less than ideal for steadicam use.

~Jess

Yes as a matter of fact the shootout impressed upon us the importance of adjustable framelines and image flip functions. It will be implemeted in our next generation of monitors by the end of the year.
